Cranberry Bay Erratic

A 3-day/2 night paddle adventure into the solitude of Cranberry Bay on Rainy Lake. We camp the first night (wind direction dependent) within view of the famous Cranberry Bay erratic, a house sized granite block deposited by melting ice at the culmination of the last great ice age. On day 2, we paddle up Cranberry Creek, through a landscape of waving bulrushes and wild rice – a place we call the Serengeti of the Voyageurs.

Cost: $325 - This includes an experienced guide, all equipment and paddling gear, including instruction, drybags, and food. You supply your own sleeping bag and sleeping pad, and are welcome to bring your own tent.

This is the same trip we offer in our summer trips section. We also offer it as a women’s only trip. A 4 day/3 night adventure across the park. You drop your vehicles at the Ash River Visitor Center on Namakan Lake. A shuttle vehicle takes you to the Rainy Lake Visitor Center where you embark on a partial circumnavigation of the Kabetogama Peninsula. The third day we arrive at the historic Kettle Falls Hotel, where dinner and a soft bed are waiting. A half-day paddle on day four brings you back to your vehicles, and off for home.

Women’s Circumnavigation
of the Kabetogama Peninsula

This is our classic 7 day/6night expedition around the Kabetogama Peninsula. Each trip is unique yet always centered upon working as a group, living as a group, and laughing as a group…plus the food is positively defining. You experience the waters of Rainy, Namakan, and Kabetogama Lakes, as you paddle around the Kabetogama peninsula that forms the central spine of Voyageurs National Park. After 4 days of beautiful paddling and camping, night 4 finds you snug in a bed at the historic Kettle Falls Hotel. Three more days are spent exploring the waters of Namakan and Kabetogama lakes. You reach Gold Portage at noon on day seven. This is the only portage of the trip and is quite short. Afterward a short paddle brings you back to the Rainy Lake visitor center.

Cost: $800 - This includes an experienced guide, all equipment and paddling gear, including instruction, drybags, and food. You supply your own sleeping bag and sleeping pad, and are welcome to bring your own tent.

Winter Trips for Women

Wintertime Eco-Adventure in the Heart of
Voyageurs National Park

Winter is the time for travel in these northern climes. Frozen lakes and Frozen bogs make trekking in the winter a dream. Most people think Voyageurs National Park is only accessible by snowmobile in the winter. In fact, Snowmobiles are only allowed on the big lakes. Boreal Explorations can take you into the seldom (almost never in the winter) visited interior of the park on a human powered, eco-friendly traditional winter camping adventure. Snowshoe or ski through stands of massive white and red pine, across glittering beaver ponds and along meandering creeks. In the afternoon learn how to set up a traditional 12 x 12 canvas wall tent and prepare the camp for a warm evening in front of the wood stove, enjoying delicious food, stories and friends. During the night, don’t be surprised to wake to the mysterious singing of wolves. The next morning, after a scrumptiously warm breakfast, you may want to explore on snowshoes or x-country ski or possibly try a bit of ice fishing. Voyageurs National Park is a winter paradise and bursting with life. Moose and deer wander through the snowy woodlands, black-capped chickadees, nuthatches, whiskey jacks, and ravens rustle the quiet air while the shy pine marten and fischer quietly watch from treetop haunts. There are boundless possibilities of discovery. Join us and celebrate this great season we call winter. We supply all the equipment and gear. You supply a winter rated sleeping bag and sleeping pad and winter clothing.
